Executive Summary
- ETNO welcomes and shares the concern of the Commission over the deployment of next generation access networks in Europe. ETNO members are contributing more than two thirds of NGA investments in Europe. Over the past year our companies have engaged in a constructive dialogue with the European Commission on how to improve conditions for high-speed broadband roll-out in Europe.
- Based on the consultation questionnaire, ETNO is concerned that the outcome of the present policy initiative could be detrimental to the EU’s ambition to provide high-speed connectivity to citizens and businesses by 2020.
- The wide-ranging debate that the Commission is opening with the consultation should also consider alternatives to a Commission instrument for harmonising costing methodologies. Stakeholders should be consulted on any future draft recommendation.
